A Time Of Re-Building

Dear Beloved!

Happy Early Summer! So much is opening right now – leaves, blooms, National Parks, concert venues, restaurants, and communities. And as much as this is a time of re-opening, this is also a time of re-building.

I recently was speaking with a friend about the symbolism of a Cairn Ceremony that I offer to couples as an option for a Unity Ceremony during their weddings. Cairns are the little piles of rocks on a hiking trail in the mountains or desert that keep hikers found. They show where the trail is when the trodden path isn’t obvious. Often weather, wind, animals, and other hikers knock the cairns over and so they have to be rebuilt.

So here we are, 6 months into 2021, and we are still finding our way through this unfamiliar time in many ways. What are the qualities that we need to re-prioritize in our lives? Let’s rebuild our cairn with the qualities that anchor us most. Those pieces of our lives help us to feel whole and calm, centered and loved. I invite you to rebuild your cairn with me and consciously choose what matters most right now– especially as the pace of life picks back up again, and possibly in ways that no longer suit our desired way of being in the world. May we make room for new modalities of living that feel truer to what we care about most now.
