8/15/2019 0 Comments Self-Care SprinkleThere are so many ways to practice self-care in simple ways throughout your day.
Here is a list of just a few (and I bet you already practice some of them!): Brush Your Teeth and Give Yourself A Little Love: While brushing your teeth, think of everything people have told you they appreciate about you (especially the stuff you refused to hear as true). Now look in the mirror, mentally attach these thoughts to yourself. I am smart. I am creative. I am lovely. I am kind. I am funny. I am honest. I am diligent. I am disciplined. I am trustworthy. Now I challenge you to add these two: I am enough. I am worthy. For a BONUS: After you spit out your toothpaste, get playful! Say out loud, in your best Stuart Smalley impersonation (a la Saturday Night Live - if you don't know this you need to YouTube it!): I am good enough. I am smart enough. And dogonit, people LIKE me. May this make you laugh - being silly and forcing yourself to smile may just life your spirits in a way you wouldn't expect. Try it! Take Stock of What's Right: Set a timer for 2-10 minutes and bring to mind everything that is going right in your life (if it feels like everything is going "wrong" focus on the absolute basics - "I have a toothbrush. I have a pillow...). Double it up: You can do this while brushing your teeth, walking the dog, showering, stretching, on a run, in traffic, standing in line at the grocery store, waiting in line in the drive through. Be Held: Find a chair to sit in. Set a timer for 5-20 minutes (you can also do this in 1-minute increments throughout your day in the car, on the bus or train, on a park bench, in your office chair, in a waiting room). Take a nice inhale to deepen your breathing, followed by a nice, full exhale. Inhale and feel your feet on the ground. Exhale. Inhale and feel the chair and ground holding you. Exhale. Inhale. Exhale and release - for right now - any heaviness you think you have to carry in your life by mentally picturing placing it on the ground. Inhale. Exhale. Feel yourself being held, relaxing into the seat that is holding you. Inhale. Exhale. Feel yourself being held. Feel yourself being carried through the world while you are carrying what you need to take care of. Inhale. Exhale. Think to yourself or say out loud: I am not carrying this alone. I am held. Inhale. Exhale. You are not alone.
